Ex Zimbo - Maybe?
We moved to the UK in 2001. Boy what a massive decision. Done for the sake of our children, in the hopes that life would be better here. In some ways it is, but the freedom is non existent here. It looks like we have moved to another dictatorship. Jobs are extremely difficult to find when you have no certificates backing you, but have a massive amount of experience behind you, in some cases you are considered over qualified even though you have no certificates! One has to be rich to go to a private doctor where you will get in immediately instead of waiting 3 weeks to see your doctor if you are on the NHS scheme. Schooling - thats a joke. No discipline and the bullying is horrific. Now for the good side. At least we dont have to worry about our families being harrassed by war vets and food shortages. You get benefits which are a help. But writers cramp is inevitable from filling out thousands of forms!

Ex zimbos living in the U.K.
God bless to all those brave people who have stuck it out this far. I am pleased to see that there are letters of encouragement which is great yet some folks have had a rough time. Alot of the stories seem to have pretty much the same sort of content, so I wont bore you with my details .Everyone who has lived in Africa carries some great memories and visions, but unfortunately there has been some huge changes in Zim recently. Memories are forever and the Zimbabwe that we all knew and loved dearly will never the same.I was brought up as a child in Mocambique and I have already had this experience of moving to a different land as a young boy. We have been living in the UK for two years and we have had our ups and downs, its still early days. If we are to survive in a foreign land, we must learn and adapt to change. Zimbabweans are survivors. Thanks for this website.

In the U.S. of A. now
It is strange, but so wonderful, that Rhodesia holds such a strong grip on its people. I have never heard anyone speak about their homeland with such passion and warmth. Even those who have been gone for years. My family left Rhodesia in 1980 when I was 5 years old. Both my parents were in the Police and my dad was then in the BSAP when things really got going. We moved from Rhodesia because of the worsening economic situation, the violence and the new government. I understand why my parents did not want us growing up in a country riddled with such increasing hatred and violence. We moved to SA first and then on to the UK. We are all now living it USA and really loving it though I do miss my homeland. I love to hear my parents tell their stories from when they were growing up. I have my own fond memories, even though I was very young when we left. I still have family in Zimbabwe and do fear for them. I am proud of their bravery and determination. Every day I wonder what I can d

I Will be Back
I left Zimbabwe in 1998 after completing my O' Levels and settled in the United States, and i joined the US Military soon after that, but i still remember all the good things that once where Zimbabwe. When i left prices on essential items where in single or low double digit prices, and yet when i went back in November i was shocked to see things in TRIPLE digits. I hope that the MDC wins the Presidential Elections and that something Positive happens in Zimbabwe, but i feel that may not happen no time soon. I Will be Back to settle in Zimbabwe, for that always felt like home to me.

BRING BACK THE GOOD LIFE IN ZIMBABW
Well dear Zimbos, I took a chance in 1985 to be in Australia. I first visited this most wonderful place in 1984 as a pro-boxer.I met a girl at the time and got married the following year in Zimbabwe before returning the second time to Melbourne. I live here now and have got two wonderful daughters who have been excelling in the sports of shotputting, discuss, javellin and hammer! It is hard work and takes time. My early days here were not so good, i was terribly homesick luckily i got a job back then which has kept me busy and my mind occuppied. My advise to you planning to come here, understand it is not going to be easy, you might not get ajob of your liking, you must understand, you 'll probably be mopping floors. I'm here to scare you, i talk reality. If you're over fourty and unskilled in anything realise it can be very bad you might find yourself working in a factory, for example, with a 19 year old as the leading hand telling you this it is your turn to stay back and put the

Saddened Heart
My heart bleeds when I read news about Zimbabwe, I am constantly checking out sites on the web regarding the situation in Zimbabwe and many a time it brings tears to see what is happening to this beautiful country!! I left because I was retrenched from my job, due to economic reasons which are probably evident to all. There were many difficulties in finding another job, so I decided to leave. I would love to return to Zimbabwe - but, is there hope. I pray for those who are brave to remain.

ISAIAH 41:13
WE LEFT ZIM IN FEB 1982 TO COME TO AUSTRALIA. IT WAS A CULTURAL SHOCK HAVING LIVED IN RHODESIA/ZIMBABWE FOR 11 YEARS. IT IS NOT EASY RELOCATING AND ESPECIALLY NOT IN THESE DAYS.I HAVE VISITED ZIM ON QUITE A FEW OCCASSIONS SINCE (THE LAST TIME IN MARCH 1996). IT SADDENS ME WHAT HAS BECOME OF SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LAND WITH SO MUCH IN THE WAY OF RESOURCES. IT WILL TAKE DIVINE INTERVENTION TO RESOLVE ZIMBABWE'S PROBLEMS. HANG IN THERE. THE PRESENT MAY BE TOUGH GOING, BUT RIGHT WILL WIN THROUGH IN THE END. PSALM 115:10-11 SCOTT

What a shame!
I'm off home in a couple of weeks 4 what is meant to be a holiday but to tell you the truth I'm so scared the state of the country is in and accept that I'll never have the life I wanted in a country I love. You couldn't beat life in Zim up until a few years ago. What a fantastic childhood. I can't thank my parents enough for moving out there to the depths of Africa all those years ago because they've given me the most treasured memories of such a beautiful place but alas now all is over. 3 years ago I left thinking I was going out to see a bit of the world b4 I settled down, not even thinking that I would never return to live again. Who knows, maybe 1 day! I feel I am forced to live in Uk where continous water pours from the skies and I think that represents me and the way I feel inside! Anyway, here's to a new life and lets hope one day we can go home and start living our lives how we always imagined and show our kids the animals etc friendliness of the people. I luv u Zim!

canada is good
My husband and I left Zimbabwe almost 11 years ago, very sad to leave the farm, but could see the writing on the wall. Glad we did now, with all that is going on there. Canada has been good to us, although it took about 3 yrs to stop breaking my heart over that ruined country Zimbabwe. Went back for a holiday, 3 years ago, and that was enough to get me over the homesickness. Would I go back? Yes , if there was a responsible government, but I can't see the country ever getting back on it's feet in our life time. Africa is always in one's blood. But if you are thinking of another country? Try Canada, if you can stand the winters, it is a great country of opportunity.
