  1. Where do you get your ideas?
Coming up with ideas has never been the hard part of writing. The actual writing is! My ideas just come from life: things that have happened to me, people I've known, events I've read about, etc. Lots of stuff has heppened to me so I have plenty of ideas. Once I have an idea, it takes a ton of work to turn the idea into a story or play!

  2. Are your stories and plays true?
My stories and plays are not factual, but they are often based on a real experience, a real person, or a real feeling. I find that trying to take something that really happened and turn it into a story or play just doesn't work well. Real life just happens how it happens -- it doesn't form a story arc!

  3. How long have you been writing?
I've been interested in writing since I was in elementary school. As a kid, I mostly wrote poems since I thought I did that so well! I was dissatisfied with any stories I wrote, but the poems seemed pretty darn good! I continued to write poems through my college years, but somewhere along a the line I began to write stories, too. I started selling children's stories in 1991.

  4. What kind of writing do you like to do best?
I enjoy writing fiction much more than nonfiction, but I can't say I have a favorite type of fiction. I like to try different things -- short and long, serious and funny, varied genres, different age levels.

  5. What writers have influenced your work?
I think everything I read affects what I write, but some of the more influential writers would be Judy Blume, Beverly Cleary, Louisa May Alcott, and Arthur Conan Doyle.
