The Yuri Honing Trio plays progressive jazz. Music focused on the timely shaping of the universal language of jazz. Since the foundation in 1989 the Yuri Honing Trio has given frequent concerts both at home and abroad. This trio consists of three people of the same generation, three individualists who have each build their own respectable reputation. Saxophonist Yuri Honing is considered one of the most important representatives of a generation of musicians who obtain a place in the European music scene, not joining the battle of trends. Bass player Tony Overwater received the `Podiumprijs` (Award for most promising musician) in 1989 and has proved himself since to be one of the most capricious and inspired bass players of his generation. Drummer Joost Lijbaart is one of the few young Dutch drummers who has developed a personal language on his instrument.
