Message:   About a week and a half ago I found a very friendly budgie just outside my door.He/she let me pick em up right away.It seemed fine at first but within a couple minutes he/she's one foot began to bleed. My first thought was that he/she caught their nail.So I put a warm cloth on it and all seemed well.I put signs up but no one called. So I named it Kiwi and kept it, well about 3 days ago Kiwi's one foot began to look a little black, and the nail didnt look hurt I figure he/she got frostbite and it was bleeding because of being taken in all of a sudden from the cold.Well Kiwi's foot swelled up and he/she picked off his/her's one toe,now there is only one toe left and last night the same seems to be happening to the other foot. The swelling went down on the one foot by today.I called the vet but the only one that deals with birds is 2 hrs away and I dont have a car and they seem really busy to answer the phone.Kiwi just seems to have trouble sitting on his/her dish to eat and to grab onto the bars the cage.I was just wondering if anyone has had a bird get froste bite and what you did.And if you have any ideas of how to fix the cage so Kiwi can get around more easily,he/she can fly very well but just has a hard time landing.Kiwi and I thank you for taking time to read all this.
