RC RACE CARS AND RAY GUSS JR
A winning and championship nascar team is about to kick off the new autoracing season with return to florida at east bay raceraceway park where last year they won a three day championship. Never heard of the r.c.race team? It's not from nascar country. It's right here in peoria located on farmington road. Robert Crump team owner has been right here in peoria building the very best in open wheel modified stock cars and parts for over 25 years. His driver is Ray Guss Jr. Milian,IL. and togerther they won the 2006 nascar championship modified class at the peoria speedway. In fact they only lost four races that season..... They did not race a full year at peoria speedway last year but are planning on a full year campaign for this year. The team has a new engine from renowned engine buider CUSTOM RACE ENGINES of Knoxville,Tennessee and expect to be even faster than ever before. The driver who is rated as one of the TOP all-time 25 drivers in the july 2006 issue of speedway illustrated magazine, has over 300 career victories and 10 track championship from 1989 to 2007. that honor with the combination of all the talent and experience of crump in building racing chassis, parts and cars makes it even more difficult to compperhend their choice to remain nearly anonymous here in peoria. The reason is best summed up in the explantion that they are unique family team and have preferred to stay at home rather than chase the "golden ring" that it is near lock for them if they would just race in more lucrative but distant speedways. Normally the team can be seen at Illinois tracks, peoria, spoonriver, east moline and aledo as well as Iowa tracks, davenport, and west Liberty and a lone Missouri track, west plaines. They will be defending their 2007 championship at east bay raceway park,Gibsonton,FLorida on february 14-16.They hope to again be the top team of the more than 110 others for the rich $8000 prize.but after that, They will be returning home.Ray Guss jr. will resume his daily job as fabricator in moline shop and Robert Crump will resume his tasks to tune out the best of the 20 chassis he builds each year from his farmington road shop. |
