Progesterone Cream and Sleep problems

I am new to the endo forum but not new to Lori's website. I have been diagnosed with endo for exactly 3 mo. I will be seeing a wonderful Naturopathic physician on Sept 17th for the fist time. I am not on any birth control and am not considering Lupron shots. I recently purchased Femcreme as a natural progesterone cream to start with. Has anyone used this before? Also, I have been reading about people who have used progesterone creams and developed sleep porblems. Lastly, I would like some insight on where to rub the cream and if it's better to do once a day or twice a day. Thank you so much for all of the wonderful threads. I have learned so much from this website. Thank you. Ashley

Re: Progesterone Cream and Sleep problems

Hi Ashely,
Welcome here! That is wonderful that you are going to see a naturopathic Dr. Let us know how it goes!

As far as the progesterone cream, I have heard that too much cream can cause sleepiness. I had not heard that it caused you not to sleep. I was just wondering if their was a group of women who had said this or maybe an article that you had seen about it.

But perhaps we are all so different and this is a side effect?

For me, it has not made any difference in my fatigue or lack of fatigue. I tested it quite a bit to find out. Maybe others will comment on their experience with it to help you also.
Feel free to keep us posted on how it all goes for you.

Many Blessings sent to you
Lori

Re: Progesterone Cream and Sleep problems

oops forgot some things. Hi again!

I use it 2x a day, but sometimes I forget the evening dose. Dr. Lee says to use it anyplace where the skin is thin like the face, back of neck, chest. I do that but also use it on the inside of my arms. I think you are supposed to rotate the areas, so each time you use it, it is in a different place.

I use progestacare, Their are so many brands out their now, I think the most important part is that it contains natural progesterone instead of wild yam. Also the average dose seems to be about 20 mg. per dose.

Re: Progesterone Cream and Sleep problems

I've read that it can make you sleepy too. The cream doesn't make me sleepy, at least not that I have noticed. Of course, I'm a night person, so I'm ALWAYS dragging in the mornings anyway. I have noticed that I get sleepy after taking the natural progesterone pills that my doctor prescribed. I only take them at night, if at all.

Re: Progesterone Cream and Sleep problems

Hi All...

Just thought I'd add my 2 cents... The great news about the cream is that I no longer suffer from insomnia! This has plagued me for about 20 years so it has been quite miraculous for me. In the past couple of weeks I have noticed some sleepiness on my part (but maybe it's my body's response to finally sleeping again--it just wants to sleep more), but I think it's because I'm taking a pretty high dosage (1/4 tsp = 40 mg, 2x a day). I'm meeting with my naturpath tomorrow to talk about lowering the dosage so we'll so what happens next.

Re: Progesterone Cream and Sleep problems

Hi, I'm very sorry I Have not been here lately. I have been using FemCreme since the 17th of this month and have not had any problems sleeping. I started to take Valerian Root because I get up in the middle of the night a lot and the Valerian Root worked the first night I took it. I did see my naturopath this past friday for 4 1/2 hours. I am now equiped with a lot of knowledge on vitamins and minerals. Not to mention I have a lot of vitamins to take 3X day. And I also started taking Vitex Fruit (Chaste Tree Berry) to help with my hormones. To everyone who wakes up a lot in the middle of the night, highly recommend Valerian Root (Nature's Way is a great brand)

Re: Progesterone Cream and Sleep problems

Hi Ashley,

Welcome to the forum, I joined about a mth or so ago and really enjoy it and all the support. I started the cream about a mth ago as well. I started out using it 2x a day, but I was sooo tired and couldn't get myself moving so I went 1x at night. Also, I rub it on my thighs, inner arms, pelvic area, and rotate it so one night you put it one place and the next another. With the leftover cream on my hands I rub it every night on my lower back and have noticed a big difference with the pain. I have been going the whole day without my lower back pain and notice it to come back right about the time I am heading to bed. So, I hope this and all the other suggestions help you out and just remember everybody is different. Take care and God bless and good luck at your appt.

Re: Progesterone Cream and Sleep problems

I have been using the cream a week now, and not sure if it is causing extra fatigue or not, because my fatigue has been sooo bad lately cause of hardly sleeping at all lately! Did sleep well the last two nights at my brothers house, actually slept a ton! But I think sleeping a lot more than I was used to made me really tired too. I was wondering though, what is the Valerian Root for? Just to help sleep? I've been slowly learning about natural treatments for different things on my own, since my parents won't take me to a naturopathic! Luckily I can still get my Mom to get me some healthy food, and some herbs though!
