B12 Shots In The Bum? or any type of shot experience...

Hi all,
Has anyone here had B12 shots?(anemic). I am going to administer them myself unless I can find a neighbor or friend to do it. I cannot drive to my Drs. weekly for this, so questions.

Also my husband is scared of needles, but he may still do it, not sure.

If you have had any type of shot before, are their any tips to make it less pain free or ways to make it not so sore? I will ask the nurse also.

Is this the best area to give them or is the arm better?. I have heard it does cause bruising.

Blessings to you,
Lori

Woah! Not sure if I could give myself a shot but heck, I've gone through worse so who knows... At any rate, my sister used to have to give herself daily injections of steroids to maintain her pregnancies, she injected them into her thigh (I think this allowed her to pinch the area she was about to inject, thus reducing the pain). I'll ask her about any tips she might have and let you know what she says.

Re: B12 Shots In The Bum? or any type of shot experience...

Hi All,
Thank you for the tips!. I rushed to my Dr. yesterday to pick up those shots, hoping for some relief of this fatigue. The Nurse gave me 3 months worth & I am going to do it 2X a week.
NO PAIN-really I was scared for nothing. It was like a breeze went by. Really. I did not even feel it, so no problem to give to myself.

Nikkie, When did the shots start kicking in? My Dr. said it takes 60 days for the blood to rejuvenate itself for the anemia, but in the meantime the shots are supposed to help with energy.
Oh it is only one day-but I am waiting...

Melanie, I was so shocked when I went to the Drs. The entire bill was $34.00 - 3 months of B12 shots & the iron supplement.

Pain Free & Painless on the pocketbook.

Re: B12 Shots In The Bum? or any type of shot experience...

$34 for 3 months worth of shots? That is so awesome! I was happy that visits with our doc are still priced at $75 once the initial consult was out of the way. She still spent a lot of time with me. It's just my supplements that run me up every month. But hey, good health is well worth it. I started my period earlier in the week and if it not for the calendar I keep (which gives me an idea on when I should start), I would not have known I was going to start my period! No PMS, no cramps, no mood swings, no severe emotional sensitivity, nothing! What was different for me this month was I started taking fish oil (mine had been back ordered for a long time). Aside from breast tenderness while running (so stop running!) I felt like I've had to remind myself I'm on my period. My period seems similar to last month, 4 days of very light bleeding and one heavy day and some cramping (strange, because it's now day 5, when for years it was always day 3-4). This is just awesome. I was sleepy for the first three days of my period (left over from the progesterone cream?), but the last two days I've been alert. My sleep isn't as well as it is while on the cream, but it's still much better than my major insomnia days. I'm just really stunned at what alternative treatment has done for me. I started off wanting to do it to try to keep the endo at bay, but so many other positive things have come from it as well. I just didn't expect such a change in my body, mind and spirit . It's all good!

Well, that was an interesting segueway...
