Quick Diet Question

I was wondering if I bought organic white rice or pasta could I eat it???

I know we're supposed to avoid them and I didn't know if the organic versions are ok.

thanks

Re: Quick Diet Question

Hi Jen,

I think any non wheat pasta is great, especially organic.

As far as the rice of course organic is better than regular white rice but my Dr. pushes the whole grain/wild rice on me as much healthier. They have one at trader joes called Organic lake wild rice but I am sure their are lots more available.

Sometimes can get confusing huh?

Re: Quick Diet Question

See that's part of my confusion. The pastas I've found are Whole Wheat organic. Do they need to be completly wheat-free to be ok, or as long as they're organic are they ok.

Yes, it's very confusing. Thanks for helping.

Re: Quick Diet Question

Hi Jen!
Wheat free is especially important on the diet
and that is the hardest one because wheat is in everything!

I am not a pasta eater but have hear this one is a very good wheat free pasta.
http://www.quinoa.net/

Maybe Melanie will see this post and can tell you what kind she uses for the Pasta, also Jill I think eats pasta.

Rice does not seem to be a problem on the diet so organic should be great! I just know that whole grain rice should be much better for you.

I guess it depend on how far you want to take it. If you are doing the diet-great & might as well take it all the way to the best health but very difficult!!!

As time goes on it will be a lot easier, because you will already have figured out which foods to buy and what you like...so shopping will not be as difficlut anymore.

I remember when I first started, I looked at everything in the market which had wheat in it and thought it impossible!!

I also allow myself time to cheat when I am on the road or out for the day as to be 100% on it would be a bit manic for me.
In my opinion being on it most of the time is wonderful!!! and I feel that much closer to healing my body.

Let us know if you find any good pasta or rice ok.
Remember we are all in this together.

I wish their were more guidlines on the diet-more details specifically but that will have to come with time.

Re: Quick Diet Question

Hello Ladies.

I have not cut out white rice, is that a no-no? I don't think I found anything that explicitly said so. I lent my book out to someone so I can't look it up! I did read that brown rice was better than most, but I eat white rice almost daily (and have all my life being half Filipino--love rice). When I have an option to get brown rice I most certainly do though. Ah pasta, I miss pasta. That is really the only thing I crave. I've tried the quinoa pasta and rice pasta. Both are just okay. Don't love 'em, don't hate 'em, don't eat 'em that often. Though I do like Asian rice noodles which seem to be quite different from rice pasta.

Re: Quick Diet Question

White rice in not a No No food as far as all I have read also. Melanie I also gave out my endo nutrition book so cannot look it up.

My Dr. has said that whole grain rice is healthier than white. That is just for me though, because it helps to stablize my blood sugar-it stays with you more.

so no offense to white rice. Eat on!!

Re: Quick Diet Question

Thank you you both for the information. I find the diet very difficult it's all the foods I love. (I'm Italian, losing pasta is a big thing!) But I find that when I stick with diet the pain isn't as severe. So I am trying to get better at sticking with it.

Re: Quick Diet Question

I just checked the pastas I bought. One is wheat free, the other contains wheat but is organic. And I got it at my local Meijer, which I noticed has gotten alot more organic alternatives. I'll have to be careful checking next time.

Re: Quick Diet Question

Mmmm, sticky white rice. Melanie, do you know how to make pancit??? My husbands and I's dearest friends taught me how to make it and WE LOVE IT, when we all lived in Savannah together we would eat at their house 24/7, but then we all moved and I had to learn it on my own(i don't cook at all) and did a good job. I am trying to think, Pancit noodles those are rice noodles, I think they are...anyways, it is a great recipe. But, has cabbage so I have to be careful how much I consume in a night because , well lets just say you don't want to light any candles around me...hahaha. Most veggies I am fine w/ because I have always eaten alot of veggies, its just cabbage that makes me leave the room. Also, I have heard that wheat rice is better for you, but wild rice is the best. I don't know the do's or don'ts w/ eating white rice on the diet though .

You all take care and God bless.

Re: Quick Diet Question

Hello Margaret.

Ooh, I love pancit! I have never made it. My mother was one of the younger ones in her family and learned only to make a few Filipino dishes. She cooked mostly traditional American (not quite sure whey as my father loves Filipino food) but instead of potatoes, we had rice. :) I had to rely on my Filipino friends to provide me with my fix. Yes, they are made with rice noodles and me thinks I now need to make a batch this weekend! Thanks for reminding me of it!

How are you feeling today?

Re: Quick Diet Question

The quinoa pasta is good - I had it for the first time this week and it is very close to regular pasta, made me very happy!!!
I was equally as relieved to taste rice milk - I'd already been doing skim before changing my diet, so the taste was a relief. I found a recipe for it and was thinking of trying it myself -- the gricery bill has been getting higher now that I am doing what I am supposed to do. Anyone else ever try making thier own??

By the way - I am new and am so excited to see everyone.

Re: Quick Diet Question

Hi Pam,
Welcome Here

I have thought about getting that quinoa past. It is available online, but where did you buy it? I did not see it at Trader Joes, but maybe it was their.

Their is a recipe for making rice milk in the endometriosis diet cookbook from endo resolved.

1 cup hot, fresh cooked rice(white or brown)
4 cups hot water
pinch of salt
sweetener to taste(maybe maple syrup, my idea?)
vanilla to taste

blend till creamy. strain through cheesecloth. Store in jar in refrigerator-it will keep 3-4 days. Shake before using.

wow I wonder if it would be better than the storebought. Let us know if you attempt it.

I have been buying vanilla almond milk lately, very good also. I run out very fast though.

Welcome again,
Lori

Re: Quick Diet Question

Hi Pam, welcome to the forum .

Melanie, It is actually not hard to make; our best friends are Fillipino , but were raised in Guam . When I feel a little better I will post the directions....mmm mmm good and it makes tons (so either plenty of leftovers or invite plenty of friends). When my husband first joined and we were stationed in Savannah, he became an official Fillipino white boy...good times.

I am hanging in for the moment, thanks for asking. Last night was really rough and had to take my drugs, which I hate doing ...oh well. So, how are you doing?

Take care and God bless you all.

Margaret

Have fun in Maui...we went to Oahu in May and I fell in love!!!

Re: Quick Diet Question

Hello Everyone!

And a special welcome to Pam. :) I seem to spend A LOT more on my health these days. But it's all worth it because I feel sooo good. Plus I just got a nice raise which should cover the cost of most of my monthly supplements. Yahoo!

Margaret, I do have a recipe for pancit, just have never made it. I have a very big family and they all love pancit too so there will be plenty to share in eating it. What they won't like though is that I'll most likely make it with shrimp because I do not eat meat or poultry (I used to always eat it with chicken or pork back in the day). I just don't like that you need to take drugs, everyday I feel so fortunate for not needing to rely on those anymore. Though I do take more pills than I ever have in my life! I've always taken vitamins/supplements though, taking drugs for pain is quite different. But I'm glad they are working for you right now. I can remember the days when my drugs would not work, tears streaming down my face and crying out in pain.

I love Hawaii! My mother is from the islands (her parents met on the boat coming from the Phillipines) so it's been part of my life. My parents also own a house in Maui so I've made it an annual rejuventation trip since I returned to CA. I love surrounding myself in it's beauty and spirit. As I post I realize I have been traveling a lot lately... New York, the Central Coast, Maui. What's next? I think Florida, a return to Wisconsin and then Montreal. There are some advantages to being single!

Cheers,
Melanie

Re: Quick Diet Question

Good Morning!

Hey Lori -- not sure what area you live in - I'm in FL and found the Quinoa pasta at Publix. They actually had quite a bit of things that I am anxious to try!

Today is a GOOD day - my cycle is almost over and I'm into my first week on Seasonale, the first full week on the diet and walking and I feel soooo much better already!

Hope everyone is well -- I'm praying for all of you..have a great Friday!

Pam
