help! my infertility specialist wants me to have a lap.....

laporoscapy- here's my situation. I was in a cryo cycle (to have frozen embryos transferred) and on vivielle dot estrogen patches. I have been experiencing excruciating pain every since i started the patches (lower back lower abdominal)that is so bad it radiates down my legs just like labor pains. I am on day 9 of my cycle and was up all night last night with the pain. My RE cancelled my cryo cycle and wants me to come in for a lap next week. I have not experienced this pain except when I am on these estrogen patches - he had me on 4 patches 1.0 mg each, changeing them every other day. we know my tubes are completely blocked solid from a previous hsg. Is it worth the time and effort to have the lap done or should i just call it quits with the estrogen patches? do you think i need to have the tissue removed or is there a chance it will go away on it's own? we have 2 children ( 1 ivf) and would really like one more. Thanks for any advice! Mary

Re: help! my infertility specialist wants me to have a lap.....

It is really hard to say what is best for you. I recently had a lap (Oct 1) and the doctor video taped it for me. I had pain, but it is hard to judge one persons pain from anothers - it was bothersome, but I am not sure it was as bad as some have. I also had spotting every month after ovulation (I think). I had a previous lap prior to getting pregnant with my daughter about 6 years ago. I had the symptoms for about 2 years before I finally got to see the specialist and have the lap. I do not like going under or the pain that is associated with the procedure, but for us, I felt it may be the only chance to have another child (we have tried for over a year with no success). It is still a bit to early to tell what the outcome will be, but I did have a much milder period this month and am hoping that the pain, moodiness and bleeding will not be a factor for sometime to come. I am realistic though, and realize that this will likekly return in the future and I will have to decide again at that time what to do. For us/me now thought, it was important to have the surgery to improve our chances of having a child. Hope this helps.

Re: help! my infertility specialist wants me to have a lap.....

Hi Mary,
Gosh I certainly do not know much about these tests and procedures. When I was going through infertility testing, I only did clomid and then every test to determine if their was a problem.
It certainly is a hard decision huh, sorry I could not give you advice, but I do want to welcome you here.!

Welcome

Re: help! my infertility specialist wants me to have a lap.....

Hi again, Mary I read back through your message. I am assuming that you have been diagonsed with endometriosis. If so, why did he prescribe the estrogen patch? I am certainly no expert, but I do know that endometriosis grows with estrogen..
I am assuming it has to do with the fertility procedure though, so may be needed for that of course?

prayers with a decision,
Lori

Re: help! my infertility specialist wants me to have a lap.....

oh, so sorry for what you are going through. like the others who have replied to your message, your pain is yours and we can't tell you what to do. only you and your dr can decide what's best for you. but if your dr says you should have a lap, i would listen. i had a lap a little over a month ago and it killed the pain i was having and i feel great for the 1st time in years! just pray about it a lot, do a lot of research, talk to your dr and ask him a bunch of q's, doing a lap won't hurt you if it's not what the dr expected. hope it all goes well for you and decide what's best. good luck!

Re: help! my infertility specialist wants me to have a lap.....

thanks to evryone who responded. you have all given me some much needed insight.the estrogen patches were given as the typical protocol for cryo. i have a feeling the re did not look through my records as he should have to see that i had previously been diagnosed with endo. I am just going to continue to prey about the surgery and i know the Lord will guide me in the right direction. many thanks to all of you for your insight.
