gladrags

I know this is probably more info that you want or need BUT when I was shopping for my period stuff last time, I found these spiffy looking things called glad rags. Basically they are reusable, cotton pads for your period. Ewwww, but definitely eco-friendly and no worries about nasty petrochems, etc. so close to my nether regions. At the encouragement of the then fiance, I bought some and I am sooooo happy and surprised at how well they work. At first, they seemed a little bulkier than what I am used to, but so much more comfy and breathable. Plus, no nasty bunching or feeling like I'm wearing a diaper. So I just thought I'd share about this cool find. By the way, they are a *bit* pricey at first but since they are reusable (the company claims 5 years, but the testimonials on their site say longer) it doesn't take long to make up that cost by saving on buying new ones each cycle. Here is their website: www.gladrags.com Simple, right?

God bless,
Steph

Re: gladrags

Hello Dear Steph!
I have not really heard about these. How do you wash them? Interesting idea!

Re: gladrags

Just soak them in cold water (kind of like a pretreat) and I just wash them in cold water (helps to get the blood out and keeps the fabric a little stronger for a longer time) with a little Charlie's Soap and some Biokleen Oxygen Bleach Plus or Biokleen Bacout. I've got lots o'skin allergies so I don't use "normal" laundry detergents, bleach, softener, etc. You should be able to find the Biokleen stuff at your local whole foods store, possibly the Charlie's Soap, too. If you can't find the Biokleen stuff, use a little hydrogen peroxide (assuming you have the white ones and are washing them alone or with other whites) as that helps to remove blood stains as well and any possible bacteria as well.

Re: gladrags

You know they are so expensive! Where did you buy them?

Thanks for the info - I buy the nature ones but they are expensive per pack and the savings may add up if i go eco- friendly...

Re: gladrags

Hi Heaven - I found my first two on sale at Earth Fare, then bought one of the "sets" on their website for a little less than $200 (thank goodness for wedding gifts!). But I figured that since I go through about 2 boxes/cycle at about $6/box and at least 14 cycles/year ($168/year) that after the first year they are paid for!

God bless,
Steph
