MIRENA
Has anyone tried the progesterone coated IUD, Mirena? My doctor suggested it because he thinks there is a possiblity that I have adenomyosis. I would like to know how you like it. I've read good and bad on the internet. I haven't found any comments on anyone using it for endometriosis. Thank you! |

Kandi, I have a friend who has used it for her undiagnosed endo. (dr. figured if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck, must be a duck). She said she has had relief from it. She actually preferred Lurpon, but was not able to keep using it for an extended period of time. She did not have side effects, although I haven't talked with her in some time so I don't know if there are long-term issues she might be having. My concern with the IUD is that it can cause an abortion if you have conceived. Sorry - I can't remember your marital status. That's all I know about it, but the fact that it could cause an abortion was reason enough for me to not even look any further at that option. My husband and I would have nothing to do with it and if doctors brought it up, we'd tell them the answer was "no" and to find something else. Hope I helped some, Robin H |

I have never tried it, but I do know some older (35+) women who've already had the kids they wanted and have used it. They were using it as a bc method and liked it, but I'm not sure if that will help you. From what I understand, women who have not yet given birth may have trouble with the insertion & removal of the IUD (seeing as the cervix has never had to stretch before), plus as Robin said, if you do become pregnant (which if it works as it is "supposed" to, you shouldn't be ovulating) it can cause an abortion by preventing the fertilized egg from attaching to the uterine wall. I call this abortion because I believe life begins at fertilization, whereas most doctors will say differently because they feel that a pregnancy begins at implantation. Ok, enough rambling. If you do try it, let us know how it works or if you learn anything new about it! God bless, Steph |

Thank you for your replies. I am married. I had no idea about the abortion thing. I haven't read anything like that in my research so far. I will have to look into that. My doctor said that since I had surgery a month ago that they dilated my cervix so that I shouldn't have an issue having the IUD put in. If I decide to do it I will keep you informed how I like it. Thank you! |

Hey, I had endo for 5 years before it was removed I had a mirena fitted, and it was really good for me to start with but it moved and was causing a lot of pain, had to have another op because the hospital thought it was the sndo back I was very lucky that it wasn't so the changed the mirena, but the threads were too long and hurt so I had it removed, and started acupuchture instead and it is worth I try I only went for 4 treatments I havn't needed to go back in months. It is worth a try and it doesn't work then it can be removed. IUD my friend had it hated and she had worse periods then even. Good luck |

Hi Kandi, My specialist recommended that I use the Mirena too, and I thought about it and prayed, same as you. I decided not to try it because I have a history of getting ovarian cysts and endometrioma forms too (another type of cyst). They do not help these to shrink or disappear, and do not prevent their formation. Hope this helps, Sarah D.
