i need advice, please help?

hello all.

i have stage 5 endometriois, i have had 7 laposcropics, my right ovary and tube removed, and iam due in next week to have my other ovary removeded, my doctor thinks, its ridicilous to have an ovary that has a disease, that keeps coming back, the only way is to take it away.
i have a wonderful daughter so iam lucky, i became a mom! the only part that sacres me is, am i going to go through the menopause now, will i have as they call the middle age spread, hot flushes age very quick, this is all a big worry for me as iam only 29.

has anybody ever had there ovaries removed and what is the outcome.
thanks, kelly.

Re: i need advice, please help?

Oh Kelly,

I'm sorry for all that you are going through. I have both my ovaries so I can't really help there. I was just wondering if your doctor thinks that removing the ovary will make the endo go away? From everything I've read it sounds like even with full hystorectomy's women can still have endo because endo grows all over the place. I'm sure you've read up on this and it sounds like you've been through a lot of surgeries. I hope that this helps you with your pain. I know what it's like to be menopausal at 25 years old (lupron) and it is a weird feeling, I've never been the same since. Good luck.

Re: i need advice, please help?

Hey Kelly
It is hard to be in such a situation so young. I wish I had some great advice, but I really don't, other than maybe seeking another opinion and if possible from a specialist.
I'm actually in a similar situation. I had an endometrioma removed and my left ovary. Now I have two more growing and I'm afraid of loosing my only remaining ovary any time soon. I'm 26 and don't want to have menopause now. I cannot take hrt because of visual migranes. I have a family history of heart disease and osteoporosis and have read about hysterectomies.

I wish there was some better advice I could give, but I will keep you in my prayers. With God all things are possible

Re: i need advice, please help?

thanks to you both for your concern and advice, i have had second opinions, but basically all doctors say the same, i have a cyst then i go for a lap to get it removed and it just keeps coming back bigger and very rapidly each time, i have an ovary thats giving me alot of trouble with cysts and basically the best thing iam been told is for it to be removed...or i could decide not to, and just go for 2 laps a year, and carry on being in alot of pain..
it sucks i know girls! but iam sure there is alot more women and young girls in worse situations than me. i just got to be strong and do whats best i suppose. tahnks again to you both..xx

Re: i need advice, please help?

Kelly I have a few endo friends that had everything removed young and are doing well One is pain free and the other actually had endo return with no ovaries or a uterus. So she had another lap and is doing well. you want to stay away from hormone replacement therapy, the estrogen in it can cause future endo problems. Pray and ask God to help you through whatever comes your way. Dont worry you will be ok try to eat right take vitamins and take good care of yourself. I had a partial hyst at 27 I wish now that they took my ovaries Im tired of suffering and re occuring ovarian cysts that burst each month. Im not comfortable or able to have surgery at this time but I know my ovaries need to come out all they do is hurt and pull constantly. I pray you will have a better quality of life and that the endo will stay away. God Bless You

Re: i need advice, please help?

Hi Kelly!

One year ago I had a hysterectomy - everything removed. It makes sense to me in your situation because I too had a problem ovary that continued to have endometriomas.

Yes, you will likely experience menopausal symptoms. I am assuming that your doctor will want to put you on hormones. Have you discussed that? If not, the time to dicuss it is before your surgery.

I chose bio-identical hormones - no more synthetic stuff for me. I take estrogen in the morning and progesterone at night. I didn't start them until 2 weeks after my surgery with the doctor thinking (I guess) to not have any estrogren production in my body to allow any possible endo to die off.

You might want to look at www.hystersisters.com. It's a great website.

I know that you mentioned having had other opinions and such, so my question might seem a bit odd, but based on all of my research and experience, there are known to be only 4 stages of endo. Are the doctors calling yours stage 5 because of the severity they found? I know that each stage has a bit of a range to it and certain criteria for the doctors to use to accurately diagnose. I don't doubt the severity of your endo - I too am a stage 4 girl. Based on some of my bad experiences prior to the hysterectomy, it just concerns me when doctors state things like that. If another stage has been added to the disgnosis curve, I'm sorry, I just don't know about it.

Let us know what day you are having surgery so we can be sure to pray at that particular time.

Re: i need advice, please help?

Hi Kelly,

I had both ovaries removed and experienced hot flashes, night sweats and mood swings. Robin is right you need to discuss at length all of your options before you have the surgery and don't take the answer that every women is different either. Discuss what options are available to you so you will know what you are going to do before hand otherwise we tend to make discuss in haste when we are having problems or discomfort. I am talking from experience here...My dr put me on a very low dose of estradiol which seems to be working for me....Robin is right again about hystersisters.com it is very informative and it has forums like here....

I pray for direction from GOd for you to know what's the right thing for YOU!!!

God bless and hugs,

Marie
