Hi all....new here :)

Hi ladies,

I've been lurking a few times and finally thought it was time to say hello. Brian & I have been married for 6 & 1/2 years and live in Ohio. We've been trying for our first since October of 2004. Long story short, ...under the care of my obgyn & stupid RE... we had numerous unsuccessful clomid cycles, clomid & HCG cycles, and one Follistim cycle (lovingly named "the follistim cycle from Hell"...can't even begin to tell you how horrible that was). Then after a break from meds, we met with a new dr whom we both adore. At our first appt, he said, "I think you have endo." Then came several trips to the hospital with AF. With the help of a diagnostic lap, we eventually discovered that the reason that was happening was because I have Stage 4 Endo. It is reallllllly bad. I was on Lupron for 7 months, hoping my surgery would be done in that window of time, but it didn't work out that way. We had a HUGE fight with insurance, the dr & hospital my doc wanted me to go to was out of network, they wanted a $30k down payment and then told us we'd be billed for the rest... welcome my emotional breakdown! Anyway, this is when God gave us our Christmas miracle...DH's employer switched ins. co's as of Jan 1st, and now this dr & hospital are IN network! Praise the Lord. I was in tears when I found out. Since then, even through the rough spots, God has totally shown me why I've had to go through all I have... why it has taken so long, and all of the other things we think about.

Anyway, Brian & I are flying to PA for my surgery March 2nd...surgery on the 4th. Drs say it will be 5-10 hrs long. But my dr (who is going w/me to PA and assisting in the surgery) said, "Karen, if you were my wife or daughter, this is the only guy I'd send you to." I guess thats hard to argue with!

So, thats my story. If you are up for adding one more person to your prayer list, I sure would appreciate them! I'm starting to feel scared and really really out of control (not okay for this control freak! lol). BUT, I know the good Lord above knows exactly how this will turn out and eventually He will show us how we are meant to be parents.

Re: Hi all....new here :)

Hi Karen,

Welcome here! Thanks for sharing your story. You are not alone in your struggles and apprehension about surgery. It sounds like God has given you a Dr. who really cares about you! This is fabulous.

I'll be praying for you as you get ready to go away for your surgery. As you prepare yourself just remember to treat yourself as God would want you to...be good to yourself and kind. Try to relax as much as you can, resting is the most important thing about recovering from surgery.

In March I'm going for surgery at Vancouver and I am nervous (even though this is the 3rd one). Nervous but confident that the Lord is taking care of me and that I am supported by my family, friends and even the health care system here. In BC we have free healthcare, but that means that we have to wait on lists for surgery openings and to see specialists. Well, God has blessed me with a great specialist who advocates for me, and she offered me an opening (someone cancelled) and I took it.

God bless you and keep you in all of this. I'm sure the ladies have advice about what to do after surgery, and before. Stay in touch, and let us know how it all goes.

Re: Hi all....new here :)

Thank you, Sarah! What kind of surgery are you having? Is it laparoscopic or open?

I have started my "to do" list and "to pack" list and my mind hasn't stopped running since. BUT, one thing that *is* on my list is getting a massage or facial before I go! I would lovvvve to get a pedi, but I don't think I can because I'm not supposed to have polish on my toes. Boo. But I can certainly get one when I come back home!

It sounds like you have a great doc and I'm so glad you can get this surgery behind you quickly! Take care of yourself & keep me posted on how you're doing!

Re: Hi all....new here :)

Hi Karen
yep the surgery I'm having is laparoscopic. I haven't started packing, but I should pretty soon.
I'm starting to get a bit nervous about it since my husband is starting a new job in another country and won't be able to be with me there. But, I just tell myself that I've had this done twice before and it was fine, God took care of me as well as my family.
That is a great idea- going for a facial and a manicure. I should look into doing that too. I've never been to a spa before, but my Mum says they're so much fun to go to. She always looks semi-melted, super relaxed when she comes home from the spa.
All the best to you as you get ready. As for me, I gotta find a catsitter. Ha ha!
God bless you,
Sarah D.

Re: Hi all....new here :)

Hey Sarah,

Of course you're going to be scared! Surgery is scary for anybody, even if you've had it done before. But it sounds like you have a great doctor, so I'm sure everything will be a-okay.

Where is your hubby's new job? Will he be very far away? Will you be moving?

Ooooooh Sarah, you must get to the spa, girl!! hehe It is wonnnnderful. My mom jokes with me that I was never this "high maintenance" until I met my two best friends, lol. But they have introduced me to the wonders that are the spa experience! For my 30th b-day, we did a 1/2 day of beauty...hr full body massage, hr aromatherapy facial, pedi & mani. I could live without the manicure, but everything else was amazing! A massage & pedi are always great, but the 2 facials I've had were really wonderful. I say definitely check into doing something nice for yourself before surgery.

Well I tried to go to work today...and only drove 2 miles before turning around and coming home. The roads are not good! Hubby is a teacher, so he has a snow day...so we get to spend the whole day together, yay! The dogs are loving it. They LOVE to play in the snow.

Speaking of pets, I hope you find somebody to take care of your kitty while you're gone! How long will you be in Vancouver? We just asked our friend to house/dog-sit for us last night. Whew!

Okay hun, thats enough out of me. I hope you have a good day!

Karen
