Inspirational Books
I thought it might be fun and interesting to start a post of books that you find inspirational and maybe why you think it is a good story. I am always looking for a good read, especially one that will boost my spirits. Dust off those library cards and let's get reading! Let's start with The Bible as we all know it is very inspirational and that you can find the perfect piece of scripture to comfort you and/or inspire you. I am currently reading "God Said Yes" by Heather Hornback-Bland and Ninie Hammon. It's a great story of Heather's tragedy into triumph. She was run over by a car and was told she would not live. 34 years, 187 operations and 13 medical miracles later, she is telling her story of hope, love, friendship and relying on God every step of the way. So, what books do you recommend? Robin H |

Robin, Were you listening to Dave Ramsey this afternoon? He was just talking about this! About how 1 in 4 Americans had not read a single book in the past year! "Love and Respect" -- by Emmerson Eggerichs. THE BEST BOOK on marriage I have ever read! We're doing the DVD small group study right now, and it is awesome. I wish someone would have told me all of this stuff the first year of marriage, but better late than never! Our marriage has really gotten great since we've been learning more about the "crazy cycle" and how to love and respect each other. And everything he teaches is in the BIBLE, not a bunch of pop psychology. If you are near to one of the cities where he and his wife are doing a conference, try to go!!! www.loveandrespect.com to see where they're going to be. Also --just read the latest Jan Karon -- it's the first in a new series about Father Tim -- "Home to Holly Springs" -- very good, lots of stuff in it about FORGIVENESS! I thought it was one of her best ones. Dave Ramsey -- "Total Money Makeover" "Rescuing Sprite" -- Mark Levin -- very good, esp. if you're a dog lover! It's a story about a family who rescues a dog. But, get ready for a good cry, too. "48 Days to the Work You Love" by Dan Miller -- READ this if you are thinking about a career change, or are unhappy in your job, and don't know what to do. He comes at it from a Biblical perspective. Very good, and inspirational! Just a few that I can think of, as my brain is winding down on a Friday night. I'm always fried on Friday nights! -Sheila |

Hi Sheila, Thanks for the recommendations. I think I will pick up the " Love and Respect" book for my Daughter and Son-in-Law, and my soon to be married Son and his Fiance. I also will look at the 48 Days to the work you love, I have read a few books like this. Titles are escaping me right now. I have been in prayer to have an answer to the question of what God wants me to do with my gifts , still trying to figure out what they are. I quite my job recently - all on faith, that He has something waiting for me. Thanks for the suggested reading, I will try to come up with a list as well. Bev |

My sister-in-law recommended "The God of Comfort" (hope I got that title right - could be "The God of All Comfort." She said it is a great book and helps you to learn to rest in God. |

ok, Well I would like to read the "marriage books" all is good, but I need help with my communication skills with my hubbie!! Thank you for the good recommendations.I have not had much time to read except for the Bible. Did you know that the greatest read of all time is the story of the "protocol son" from the Bible. Not sure where that is off hand.. I have read some good books, but will post them another time. Lori

I really like reading the Eric and Leslie Ludy books. My husband sent me a few of them way back before we learned we were meant for each other in an effort to help me decide whether or not the relationship I was in at the time was good for me. I especially liked "When God Writes Your Love Story". They are easy to read and geared towards teen, but they spoke to me, too in my old age (I think I was 22 at the time...so old, right?) And I know this book is kind of old, but it was one my grandmother gave to my mom and I just picked it up one day. Fabulous find! "HInd's feet in High Places" I can't think of who wrote it just now, but if I find out I will. God bless, Steph |

A good women/men communication book is "Men are Like Waffles, Women are Like Spaghetti." It discusses how we communicate as women and men and how we can communicate together. Robin H |
