Getting to know the great "I AM"!! online BIBLE STUDY!!
DO YOU WANT TO KNOW GOD BETTER? DO YOU KNOW THAT HE IS A PERSONAL GOD? I was a bit depressed tonight(friend died of cancer, chronic fatigue & life in general...) I kept thinking "what is wrong with me?" & my husband kept asking if I was alright.. "I usually have Joy admist the circumstances of life!" most of the time that is.. I then realized that I have not been in God's word(the bible) since wednesday night at church. Bad move and depression comes quickly! So since I am not in a bible study right now - I will do one here on my own and if you would like to join me-then PLEASE DO!!! If not, you could just let me know that you are reading perhaps out there in computer land(sometimes I wonder how many are out there)But please feel free to Join me. Please do not feel intimidated ok. I am just a broken girl who needs the Lord & am no better than you are. Feel free to answer the questions here or on your own. I really wanted to do a chronic illness study, but could not find one-instead I believe that HE directed me to this one. He knows what we need better than I do! And the "I AM" scriptures are my favorite. This is a mini study. I will put this post at the top of the forum soon. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 3:11 Lori |

Answer and commentary to question 1 & 2: Jesus drew in the sand and did not condemn the woman caught in adultery. The woman was caught in sin & according to the law of moses an adultress was to be put to death. (& the man/woman who commits adultery ...shall surely be put to death. Leviticus 20:10) Jesus did not come into the world to condemn the world(forgot where scripture is) he came into the world to be a Savior. Many people believe that they are going to hell because they are a murderer, liar, thief etc..That is not the reason for it. The person does these sins because he/she does not believe/commit/have faith in Jesus Christ! Once the faith comes the Holy spirit indwells the soul and begins to change a person. Suddenly sin is no longer comfortable. Jesus is God in the flesh, the only God He is the Saviour. He died for the sins of the whole world. Any person who comes to the Lord Jesus Christ in truth is forgiven. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 So I like to relate this to what would have happened then- Since the woman caught in adultery met Jesus and put her faith in him, she would have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. She would have gone out and sinned NO MORE( away from blatant rebellious sin...) as Jesus told her-"GO & SIN NO MORE!" Her life would have begun to change. She may not even have realized what had happened. Just one day, she would have noticed that the desire for sin was no longer fun/satisfying/pleasurable. It would have been instead great guilt as the Holy spirit convicts and it would not be justification as it is easy naturally to justify the reason for our sin. Then she would have told people- The truth has set me free!!! (John 8:32-question 4) Jesus has set me free! I feel clean and renewed. As He takes away our sins as far as the east is from the west he says.. Now that is cool. As I grew up in "religion" it was different because I was told Not to sin or I would go to Hell etc.. It was more of a fear of Him, but that did not work as that was not the reason for me heading hell. I did not know about this personal relationship & I did not know the word of God that tells of the Holy spirit marking us with a seal that we are his(ask if you want scriptures)when we place our faith/trust in Him. It did not matter that people kept telling me not to sin. Jesus needed to tell me not to sin-through someone quoting scripture or through his spirit indwelling me..I was not going to change no matter what anyone said! Jesus Christ can break down the walls as no other. So cool he is Thank you Jesus!Lori |

Great Andrea! Here are more questions on John chapter 8. Are there things about Jesus that were once a puzzle that you now understand better? In what ways have Jesus's words made you FREE INDEED? This is my question & if someone does not know I will call my church. Why is Jesus so tender here and in most places shown as this in scripture. What is the difference to why he is so angry here in the scripture below? He turned over the tables of the money changers and the chairs of those who sold doves. He said to them, The Scripture says, My house shall be called a house of prayer; but you have made it a den of robbers. Matthew 21:12,13

I am really enjoying chapter 8! Here is more. "As he spake these words, many believed on him. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."—John 8:30-32. This is part of a sermon from Spurgeon: I. These believers were not all of one kind; and upon that fact I shall enlarge in this beginning of my sermon. Let that stand as our first observation upon the text—OUR LORD HAD DIFFERENT KINDS OF BELIEVERS AROUND HIM. There were two sorts of believers evidently, who may be set forth to you by the differing expressions used in the Revised Version. We read in verse 30, "Many believed on him"; and then in the thirty-first verse we read of "those Jews which had believed him." Mark the distinction between "believed on him" and "had believed him." It is a singular expression also, "Those Jews which had believed him." They were Jews still as to their traditional belief and connection—Jews first of all, whatever they might be in connection with their Judaism. The omission of the word "on" or "in" is a happy one, because it is exactly accurate; and it helps to bring out an important distinction, while it also accounts for what seems so strange, that those who had believed him should, almost immediately after, charge him with being a Samaritan and having a devil, and should even take up stones to stone him. There were two sorts of believers, and on these I will speak a while. The first "believed on him": these are the right kind. What is it to believe on Christ? It means not only to accept what he says as true, and to believe that he is the Messiah and the Son of God, but trustfully to rest in him. To believe on him is to take him as the ground of our hopes, as our Saviour, upon whom we depend for salvation. When we believe in him or on him, we accept him as God sets him forth; and we make use of him by trusting on him to do for us what God has appointed him to do. This trusting on Jesus is saving faith. "As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name." "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life."(scripture) To believe him may be a very different thing from believing on him. Such belief may fall far short of saving faith. To believe on him means heartily to give yourself up to him, and to follow him as the way, the truth, and the life to you. Rejecting all rival confidences, the heart leans on Jesus all its weight, and leaves with him all its burdens. Believing in him, we repose all our concerns, for time and for eternity, in his hands. To believe on him is also to believe implicitly. We believe all that he may yet say. We accept not only what he says which we can fully understand, but that which as yet is dark to us. We so believe in him that we go with him in all his teachings, be they what they may. We not only go as far as he has hitherto revealed himself to us, but we are prepared to go as much farther as he pleases. What he says is truth to us, on the sole evidence that he says it. We believe in Jesus, not because we judge that what he says can be endorsed by our understanding (though that is, indeed, the case), but because he says it. Our Lord's word is reason enough for us. The ipse dixit of the Son of God suffices us, even if all men deny his assertions. He has said it, and he is the truth itself. We believe on him; Son of God and Son of man, living, dying, risen again, ascended into the heavens, we trust him. He is our infallible prophet, and our omniscient teacher. We rest ourselves wholly on him. That is saving faith. Oh, that it may be said of this congregation, "Many believed on him"! http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/2191.htm Halleluiah! This sermon makes me also think of the "seed & the sower" in the book of Matthew. 4 different types of hearts, but only ONE saved. Some believed for a little while... Let us pray for our unsaved family & friends!

I haven't really dove into the STudy yet but I will justsimply type what God has showed me through His WORD. THE WOMAN CAUGHT IN THE VERY ACT OF ADULTRY. The scribes and Pharesies brought to Jesus a woman that was having sex with a married man. If they brought her as she was caught in the midst of adultry then she was problably brought to him as a naked woman. How shameful that would be to have your sin publicly displayed. Not only publicly displayed but also she was a condemed woman, for the law stated that if anyone was ever caught in adultry that they would be stoned to death. Exodus 20:14. They were accusing this woman right infront of God. So she was publicly, sinful, naked, accused, and condemed woman in the sight of God. Jesus's reaction this situation.(as the scribes and pharesies where testing him and trying to condure up something that they can accuse Jesus of.JOhn 8:6. First off, Jesus knew that it was a test. Because in the Law, when two people where caught in adultry, they would bring both people. The man and the woman. This shows that the scribes and pharesies had set up the whole scene. They problably more likely knew that this woman was knowed as being an adultress. She may have been one of their side flings. Second off, Jesus emediatly stoops down to write on the ground with His finger, as though He did not here the accusation. So they continued to probe Jesus. Jesus raises Himself up and states the big statement. HE WHO HAS NO SIN AMONG YOU CAST THE FIRST STONE. Emedietly Jesus stoops back down to the ground to write on the ground. Some commentaries suggest that Jesus may have been writting all of their sins on the ground in the dirt publicly. I think that Jesus may have been publiclt writting the names of each woman that they had lusted after, or were with, right next to their own name.I cannot be dogmatic, but It may be. After the scribes and phareseis her it, they being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one beggining with the oldest even to the last. I believe its a sin to say that you have no sin. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. Now the sin is between just her and God. Sometimes we don't recognize our sin if someone else is always pointing it out. when they are trying to take the speck out of our eye and theres a huge board blinding their own. It takes the work of the HOLY Spirit of God to convict a person. So next time you recognise someone elses sin. Think about yourself first, and give that person to God. When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her; Woman, where are your accusers? Whenever you feel like satan is bringing accusation, after accusation, go to Jesus our advocate and ask Him to deal with the problem. Has anyone accused you? She said no Lord. (problably with a shaky voice, scared yet amazed). The Lord sais; niether do I condem you, go and sin no more. AWESOME. JESUS IS SO GOOD< SO KIND. When everyone is ready to pound on the *****rer, the thief, the drunk, the prostitute, the junky, the whatever you can think of. Jesus is ready to forgive them. He Shed all of His blood for everyone. He has open arms. Sometimes it takes a person coming close to death. To the very end of themselves to see God.When there is absolutly no one else there for you, GOD IS. But he dosnt want that person returning to the sin that will destroy us. He is the deliverer, the Healer, saviour, and He IS ALMIGHTY GOD. DON"T GO BACK TO THE SIN THAT SO EASILY ENSNARES US> GOD HAS GIVEN US A SECOND CHANCE TO LIVE AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THIS WORLD> It will be worse if we return. |
