Question regarding the term "painful bowel movements"

Hi! I posted here a few weeks ago with some questions because my dr. suspects I have endo. I do have PCOS and possibly pubic symphasis dysfunction from carrying a breech baby.

I have searched the internet for info. on this particular symptom I'm having and have yet to find anything. I don't know if it could be related to endo (if I have that), PCOS, the pubic thing...or something else. I apologize for TMI here!!

Anyway, it seems like I feel somewhat better when my bowels are full. However, within a minute or minutes of having a bowel movement, my pain will grow until it is literally horrendous. It is a mixture of an awful pulling pain as well as a "I'm going to start my period any minute" type of pain. It's so bad that it's actually hard to walk because my lower half will feel so heavy and the pain radiates to my pubic area, groin and hips.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? The only thing I can even think of that could cause pain like this would be adhesions being pulled once the bowels are empty because they are repositioned after a bowel movement.

Any thoughts?
TIA!!

Re: Question regarding the term "painful bowel movements"

Forgot to mention...with the pain I mentioned that comes after the BM, I also get horrendous lower back pain and it feels like I have a tight band wrapped around me as well.

Needless to say, I dread having a bowel movement anymore.

Re: Question regarding the term "painful bowel movements"

Hi Andrea,

I experience something a little different but sounds similar. I have a lot of pain right before I'm going to have a bowel movement, the heaviness you mentioned in your legs is what I feel the most. And it makes it hard to walk, I especially feel this way right before having diarrhea-sorry if TMI. But I always feel way better after having a bowel movement, so thats where we're different...hope this helps.
Hope you find some answers soon...
Becky

Re: Question regarding the term "painful bowel movements"

First of all, Hello everyone, I'm new here. I will address my story in a moment, but I really think I need to mention how funny I'm finding it that this is the first topic I am making my appearance in.
I appologize because it really isn't funny. I know because I have the painful bowel movements associated with endometriosis as well. And that sure is NOT funny at all. But, I decided to reply to this post first because it really hit home for me.
I think we're all past the point of worrying about TMI. We all are going through something extrememly horrible & who r we going to talk to if we don't talk to each other? TMI, even though we may feel embarrised to discuss & such, really doesnt exist anymore when you are going through so much pain with such a simple thing like bowel movement.
Andrea, it does sound like you could be right, but I also am the opposite of you. I was diagnosed with endo & have had one miscarriage & 2 lap. But until this year, I hadn't experienced the bowel pain. With my most recent lap, my dr discovered the endo had riddled my intestins, colon & adheared my intestins to my appendix. He did what he could, but when it reaches the intestins & colon the cauterizing & lazering isnt really fully possible because the dr could puncture a hole & then you'd really have a problem.
I had my lap a month ago & already have extremely painful bowel movements again. They're horrible. They hit like a wave. It will start like a hot flash. The blood leaves my face. Then I realize ok, I'm not just nausiated, I have a bowel movement coming, NOW! So I'll rush to the bathroom. By the time I make it there, I can't go. Thats when the pain gets EXTREME. I've been borderline ready to call 911 a few times.
When I finally can go, whatever blood is left in my face & head leaves & everything goes white like I'm going to pass out & lose consciencness. The pain will be unbearable for 20mins to an hour then after the bowel movement is finished its like I'm weak but the pain is completely gone.
If you girls thought you were TMI, I appologize if this is TMI for you, but its just honest & before I knew what this was that was happening to me, I was so freaking scared I didnt know what to do with myself. I dont have a mother to talk to & its taken me 7 years and 5 drs to find one that actually has given me some answers & doesnt chalk me off because my bloodwork is all normal & there is nothing visablely wrong with me.
Anyways, I tend to ramble, but wanted to share my experience with this too. I'm currently starting a diet designed for endometriosis. I tried it once before for about 4 - 5 months and it worked VERY well. I had less pain & better periods. I'm hoping that things havent progressed too badly for me that I can't reduce what pain I'm in. So here it goes. Diet started! lol
And hello everyone!
Nice to meet you!
