What are the odds?
I haven't been officially diagnosed with endometriosis, but the doctors say it's a pretty good chance that I do. I was wondering what the odds were that you could have it without being properly diagnosed (but doctors say that you could have it)? |

Hi Lola, don't believe anything until they properly diagnose you with endo, it is SO common for doctors to say "you probably have it" and then put you on some kind of hormone that will have long-lasting effects on your health. If you think you have endo and are waiting for answers, i suggest you start on the endo diet which is posted on this site in numerous places. It is difficult to start, but highly rewarding! I know this to be true. Keep asking your doctors for a LAP, this is the only way for them to properly diagnose you, it might not even show up on an ultrasound. Hope you find what you're looking for and God bless you! Sarah D. |

No matter what the odds, your doctor should always get a proper diagnosis (which can only be done through a lap!) Otherwise, how do they know what the problem really is? Sure endo has some pretty distinct symptoms but not always. My doc finally opted to do a lap because he wanted to be sure it wasn't PCOS or ovarian cancer. I promise I'm not trying to be depressing but don't let your doctor take the easy way out! God bless, Steph |

Dear Lola, In agreement with the other ladies. It is highly recommended that you get a proper diagnosis. And the only way is through Laprascopy. P.s. Birth Control is NOT a diagnosis. Love, Nettie |

Hi Lola, I'm in your boat, my doctors think i have endo but i have not been diagnosed via laproscopy. my reproductive endocrinologist is very anti surgery so he doesn't want me to have a lap unless i'm in a ton of pain and they're going to go in and try to get it all out as well as diagnose me. I'm torn on the issue. I've been treated with Lupron (don't recommend it) for the endo which i responded to so my dr. thinks that's a pretty good sign that i do have endo. I don't necessarily think you should jump in to have a laproscopy to get diagnosed, I think that it's a very personal decision. I would recommend doing a lot of research on endo to make your decision. one thing that sucks about not having a diagnosis is that some doctors won't take you seriously. so on one hand my reproductive endocrinologist takes me serious but he's not the one prescribing my pain meds, that's my primary care. so if my primary care dr is having issues refilling my pain med's she has to talk to my reproductive endocrinologist which can be a pain to make happen. so overall i think that having surgery is a very personal decision and one that you should make after doing a lot of research. feel free to email me if you want to talk further. i wish you luck in your decision!
