Doing Yoga to Balance Hormones

Hello,

I just read an article in Yoga Journal Magazine about "fertility yoga". A special kindo of yoga that is being done to help with fertility. But another part of the article stated that yoga helps to balance hormones. I never knew that. They said to focus on relaxing yoga not really power yoga. I did yoga almost every day for about 3 weeks and I noticed a lot of differences in my life. For one, I wake up many nights with cramps. During these 3 weeks I never woke up in the middle of the night. Plus I felt much more relaxed during the day even though I was doing yoga at night. I don't consider myself to be flexible but yoga is suprisingly easy. I bought an AM/PM Yoga DVD at Target and a yoga mat (about $40 total) and each session is about 30 minutes. I was just doing 30 minutes minimum of yoga and noticed huge differences. Anyways I just thought that I would share. Even if it doesn't end up helping to balance hormones the other effects, stress relief, relaxation, better sleep, exercise etc are well worth trying it.

Re: Doing Yoga to Balance Hormones

Dear Becky,

I pray that you are doing well. I just wanted to share a little about Yoga. I know many people who practice Yoga, including two of my sisters. Streching is wonderful for your body, And taking deep breaths while you walk outside in the fresh air is even better because we have so many toxins in our homes. But personaly, I would not go any further considering what I know about Yoga.

Is yoga safe?

Can the methods used in the yoga techniques for exercising be separated from the philosophy? The answer is a distinctive “no” because yoga is considered to be a practice of psychosomatic exercises. There is no way to separate the two. The yoga scholar will tell you that in order to practice yoga in the fullest, one must experience what is called the “kundalini” effect within meditation. What does this mean? For spiritual lessons to be grasped by the soul within the person, the chakra, or different locations within the body where a circle of metaphysical and/or biophysical energy resides, join together in the process. Kundilini stimulates the chakra center to open and release the energy held within. If not done properly, some believe that a person can injure the brain.

By researching the history of yoga, we learn that it is not safe spiritually. Yoga teaches us to focus on ourselves instead of on the one true God. It encourages us to seek the answers to life's difficult questions within our own conscience instead of in the Bible. It also leaves one open to deception from Satan, who searches for victims that he can turn away from God (1 Peter 5:8).

I hope that you understand what I believe. Thank you for your genuine concern regarding the health of others. May the Lord continue to richly bless you.

Love,
Nettie

Re: Doing Yoga to Balance Hormones

Sorry if I offended anyone. I never really thought of the religious aspect. I just do yoga because it helps me to relax and it helps me to sleep, it even helps my cramps. I personally love it but maybe stretching is better for others. I just thought that it was interesting. I think it's so important that we take time for ourselves and do things that are good for our health.

Hello Becky! No offense taken at all. I did yoga for many, many years. Then someone here told me about it and I was so surprised when I looked it up to its meaning. I do not want the enemy to have any kind of influence in my life. Yes, you are so correct. We need exercise. It helps so much.

Thank you Nettie for your reply. It is a good reminder about it as sometimes I forget.

God Bless your day today,
Lori

Hey guys!
Any exercise will help balance your hormones. It helps prevent breast cancer too. I've read that in several books, but here is what Dr. Lam says about it in his article on Estrogen Dominance:

Hey Becky,

You sound like a very mature person. No offense at all. I just thought you might not have knowned. Tai Chi stretching is safe and very affective. May the Lord bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you. And be graciouse to Thee.

P.S.

Check out a book called Back to Eden. Skip the part where he's all into the soy bean. (I guess this guy discovered that you can extract milk from the soy bean. But it may not be good for us endo wemon.)

But other than that the book is very informative on a huge load of info including the importance of stretching properly.

The best six doctors anywhere,
And no one can deny it,
are Sunshine,water,rest,air,
Exsersise, and diet.

Regular excercise in the open air is one of the most important factors for the preservation of health and prolongevity, the larger amount of oxygen taken into our bodies. Proper excercise in the open air and sunshine is among God's greatest gifts to man. Iit gives good form and strength to the physical bodyand-and all other helth habits being equal -is one of the surest safegaurds against disease and premature death. It gives buoyance and strength and maintains a healthful mental balance, free from the extremes from artificial living. The detrimental effects of brething in impure air , especially in a room where there are several people. Oxygen is one of the best blood purifiers and one of the most effective nerve tonics. It is freely provided by nature to all. If the poisones wast matter that should be throne off by the lungsis retained, the bloodbecomes impure and not only the lungs, the stomach, liver, and brain are affected. The digestion is retarded, the skin sallow, the brain clouded, thoughts confused, and whole system inactive and very susseptible to disease.

The guy educates about how to use vitamins, how to much of certain vitamins can cause toxic overdose. How to message properly, use water as a detox, What herbs are for and how to use them, What foods are bad and why they are, etc.etc. It has been a good book to have.

Yoga concerns

I consider myself a religious person (I'm Catholic), and I'm confused by the comments about yoga. I just started taking yoga classes, and it has provided great relief from my constant pelvic pain. I have tried many things over the past 1.5 years to relieve pain. After my lap surgery, I switched my diet, altered meds/vitamins, etc. I've even tried accupuncture. Yoga was another one of my desperate attempts to find relief from the constant pain.

The yoga classes that I attend are held at a local gym - not a yoga center. I never realized that there was a spiritual side to yoga (maybe I'm a bit naive?). Or perhaps I'm really just attending a stretching class that is called yoga because the name seems more "in fashion" these days? I often find myself praying to the Lord during class. And I find the music peaceful. I also enjoy spending time with the other women in the class - for some reason, they also seem to be doing "yoga" for relief from some kind of pain.

Bottom line...I definitely don't want to be involved in anything that is considered sacrilegious. Can someone please tell me if it sounds like I'm attending "yoga" or I'm attending a "stretching" class?

Sorry for the long email. Thanks in advance. And God Bless :)

Re: Doing Yoga to Balance Hormones

Sheila, thanks for the link. I don't ever remember hearing that exercise balances hormones. So interesting. It just gives us one more reason to exercise! I did some today and felt great afterwards...thanks for the info.

Re: Doing Yoga to Balance Hormones

Hey Mary,

I know how you feel! I've even prayed during my "yoga" classes as well. A few months ago a similar post came up about yoga so I spoke with one of my very devout christian friends who also just happens to be a yoga instructor. She said that most common "yoga" classes are really just stretching classes that it becomes yoga when you add in the meditation, etc. This makes sense to me because all the "yoga" classes I've ever taken had always done stretches/poses the same as what we did to stretch for our aerobic classes, my marching band practice, PT for the AFROTC, and running for track (back when I could handle it). So I guess what I'm saying is that if the stretches stay the same between warming up or a yoga class does this mean we should just stop stretching because it resembles a "meditation" that is contrary to Our Father? I guess the best advice I can give is to check out what exactly your yoga practicing is like, talk with your pastor/priest, pray, and discern whether it is right to continue it or find another method of exercising.

May God bless you and guide us all in our daily decisions,
Steph
