Good day! I was diagnosed with Endo when I was 18, but since I started having a period they were always really painful. I would miss about 2 to 3 days a month. My mother took me to an OB when I was about 14. This is about 2 and half years after starting my period. The OB wanted to say that I was just one of those unlucky girls who was going to have painful periods. The OB stuck me on birth controll to see if it helped. Of course it didn't work. After that I stopped taking the bc and I didn't go back to see a doctor until I was 18. I went to the hospital because I thought that I was having an M/C. The ER doctor said that I had some cyst on my ovaries and that I needed to see a regular OB because the ER doc had brought up that I might have Endo. After about a month of having horrible cramps and heavy bleeding I decided it was time to go. Sure enough I had Endo. Some woman can have Endo and never know till they start having trouble getting pregnant. God Bless! Hope this helps you. Lauren |

Hello Allisyn, When I first started my periods they were awful so I was put on BC pills at about age 12 (no diagnosis just here you go!). When I got to college my painful, heavy periods came back so my docs and I did some changing up of pills. I finally just gave up taking them when I was 20 as I couldn't see myself wasting the money on something that was doing no good. It wasn't until about a month after my 22nd birthday that the pain & fatigue starting getting to the point where I was calling into work almost once/week (I waited tables). Finally in February (about 4 months later) my fiance' insisted I go see a gyno because of how bad things had gotten (I probably left my bed/house only 2 days/week and was extraordinarily depressed because of it). I'm terribly stubborn about admitting when I'm well and truly sick. After many blood tests, ultrasounds, manual exams, etc. my gyno told me he wanted to do a lap. While he was fairly certain it was endo, he wanted to make sure that it wasn't (also?) PCOS or ovarian cancer (family history of all 3). I had my lap in midApril where he found extensive adhesions, the beginnings of a chocolate cyst, and an extremely swollen uterus (he said it looked like I'd already had a few kids - I've had none). He burned away as much as he could and separated one of my ovaries from the side of my uterus. He reccomended Lupron but I opted to do more research of my own first. I instead opted for a naturopathic route and while I still don't feel "perfect" I spend considerably more days feeling pain free. The progress was slow and it actually took my now husband pointing out the difference for me to notice just how vast an improvement I've made. Sorry for the novel, but that is my story as concise as I can make it.God bless, Steph |

My story is pretty similar to what everyone else has shared. I started having pains with my period early on and as I aged it got worse. I had an employee/friend that worked for me and she had endo. She described her symptoms to me and I had the same sypmtoms. I had intense pain. At times it was so bad I would collapse and wouldn't be able to get out of bed for a few days. I avoided going to the dr. I finally had pain so bad one day that I went to the ER and found that I had an 11cm cyst growing. I had surgery in Jan of 07(at age 25) to remove the cyst(endometrioma) and was told I had endo. About 2 months ago or so I saw a naturopathic dr due to endo and other med issues and I'm feeling better, although some months are better than others as far as endo goes. Learning as much about endo as possible and the treatments available help quite a bit with endo. Melissa |
