Re: Re: Re: Installing Win98..

Rather than give a list of items that might help you out, I have included a couple of websites that should be able to help. First you will need to have a boot disk. This was discussed in my Option 3. Hopefully you have access to a windows 95 or 98 machine. You will need to create a boot disk to complete the setup.

Here is a site that shows you how to use your bootdisk, format your hard drive, and then setup windows. It sounds like this is what you tried to accomplish.

Good Luck.

Hi Jeff

I did as you suggested and I have loaded the Win98. But, now that I'm all the way to the end and the computer has rebooted it self, it's giving me this message:

Invalid COMMAND.COM

Enter correct name of Command Interpreter (eg, C:COMMAND.COM)

I'm really confused by this. Can you help... I'm so close now.

Thank you,

Vicki

Here are a couple of things that you can try:

1. Try putting the Windows 98 CD in the CD drive and reboot your computer. I believe that the Windows 98 CD is a bootable CD and should start the install if it is in your CD drive. You might need to set the cd drive as a bootable device in your BIOS. To find out how to do this consult the BIOS manual that came with your computer.

2. Try putting the Recovery disk in your cd drive and reboot your computer. This should work the same was as option 1.

3. Do you have a boot floppy disk? If you do you can put that in your floppy drive and restart the computer. This should give you a device prompt from which you can access your windows cd.

I've really done it now. I need help in trying to install win98 on my computer. It had Win95 and the disk that was given to me for Win98 was not the upgrade one, it was the one that comes with a computer. I've been trying to get this loaded and a few nice people have also tried to help. Last night one individual said to just erase the windows that I already have loaded then the Win98 disk will load. OK, sounds right to me, NOT! Seems it took out my ability to put in anything. I tried to reboot the system and NO C: drive comes up and you can't type in even A: so you can load something. Am I dead in the water? I have a Recovery Disk that came with the computer but I can't even use that because I can't get the drives to show up. Can anyone tell me what to do next????

Thank you for your help.

Vicki

Re: Installing Win98..

firstly on your computer and then on start setup of 98
During installation you have two options that you have to go with partition or want to install win98 on win95. Go on as you like. then computer itself installs the win98 .take your popcorns and leave the room for 30 minutes .After this you have you a computer with 98 install on it.
