Martin, are you the younger brother of William Dunbar who I was friendly with in Aden in the late 60's/early 70's? William is in lots of photos I have sent in. You don't say what age you were when you left Aden in 1980. Maybe you were just a toddler at the time. Please e-mail back.
forgive me for taking so long to reply, for some reason I never saw your post.
Yes I am the younger brother of William and I can remember you from Aden. Usually the younger ones remember the older ones but its hard to remember the younger ones. I can remember you hanging out with William.
For a lot of the time while we were in Aden we lived in Malla and not Little Aden, and only moved to Little Aden laterly. I cannot remember going to the Primary school in Little Aden for Example (we went to the big Convent in Big Aden run by Italian Nuns), and then it was off to boarding school in the UK. I can remember the large gaggle of kids all travelling together on the plane to the UK.
Glad you liked the poem. It's really part of a song. Maybe I should get my boys together and we could record an MP3 of it for the site.
My Dad has recently digitised his Aden slide collection, so I will have a word with him when I next see him and organise to send some to the site.
all the best
I left well before 1980, the dates must have got mixed up. I was about 14 when I left, so it must have been about 1972, my Folks would know the exact Date.
Both William and I were born in Little Aden Hospital, myself in 1958 William a couple of years earlier.
Hello young John,
I am Martin ( and William and Marian's) Dad .
I note he has tasked me to onpass some of my recently digitised slides to the Aden Kids Website.
I shall get a CD put together shortly and send it on.
My wife Margaret and I were in Aden from 1954 until 1973, when we all went home to Aberdeen where I worked on the BP Forties Ofshore Oil System until I retired in 1988. I ne your Dad very well.
Cheers from Royal Deeside Aberdeenshire.
