Re: Anyone out there??

I'm still here, John!!
I keep looking every now and then to see if anyone has posted anything but it's been very quiet.
Strange considering the events happening in Yemen at the moment.
A major turning point for the country and as yet no idea whether it will turn out well or as a complete disaster.

Re: Anyone out there??

Hi Stephen

Good to see that us Aussies are still around!

The news out of Yemen seems to be mainly concentrated on Saana and the Radfan/terrorists areas with nothing out of Aden or Little Aden - but none of it is nice and I have no idea how it's all going to pan out.

Hopefully our subscibers in Aden are all OK and not adversely affected by all the troubles.

Cheers,

john

Re: Anyone out there??

There seems to have been a lot of activity all over, including Aden.
I'm following the whole thing on Twitter and it looks pretty active.
Taiz is one of the main centres of resistance and there have been a few deaths in Aden. There was a fear last week that AQAP might try to take over Aden after they took Zinjabar but so far nothing other than some sightings of suspected Al-Qaida militants and a scuffle or two.

Re: Anyone out there??

Friends in Aden tell me that there has been protests in Maalla, Crater, Khormaksar and Sheikh Othman. Little Aden has been quiet. The security forces have used snipers to kill the protestors. There are some horrific videos of the casualties on Youtube. On Facebook , connect with News of the Yemen Revolution, and Aden Friends. They seem to be posting video very shortly after the event happens. Friends tell me the Yemeni government is not beinbg terribly truthful about the sitution in Zinjibar regarding who is holding the city. Not only are there the protests, the residents of Aden are now suffering repeated power cuts, no diesel fuel, and a shortage of water. As there is no oil to speak of, the Western Powere will not intercede in this conflict. JPW

Re: Anyone out there??

Yes, it's pretty bad.
Sad thing is that the revolutionary youth have had a perfectly reasonable transition plan prepared for months but no-one either inside or outside Yemen seems interested in what they have to propose. Everything seems to hinge on the GCC's plan which inevitably involves Saudi and other Arab states having some sort of control.
The US are paranoid about Al-qaida, who, from all reports from people "inside" are really not that big an issue and who are so hated, and would probably be well enough controlled, by the Yemeni's themselves as to be almost a non-issue.

Here's the link to the Yemen hashtag on Twitter if anyone is interested:

Re: Anyone out there??

It's reached Little Aden now :-(

The protesters in Boreqa, were applicants for employment in Aden refinery after they were promised jobs.
