Re: Aden 1964-66

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your post and sorry for a late reply but my Internet connection was down for a week!
Your post was really interesting but what a horrific story about your father - so lucky that his back was turned at the time of the blast, but still a traumatic event for you all.
I remember the Red Sea Shop and various others - Wong and Sons Trading Company (I still have some of their Chinese clothing and other items), Bhicajee Cowasjee, Cowasjee Dinshaw, etc...
I don't remember the school name but your post reminded me of when I was at school in Nicosia, Cyprus some years earlier during the EOKA crisis. We too had guards on the buses and wire netting on the bus windows.
My father worked in the Ministry of Defence, hence the postings to places where British forces were based - and we ended up in not one but two trouble spots!
There was a lot of security during our time in Aden, but people seemed to try to live as normal a life as possible - holidays were spent playing tennis and swimming, and sailing which was a hobby of our family - but always with a sense of the danger in the background and the knowledge that lives, especially in the conflict zones, were at risk. A strange atmosphere.
All for now but would enjoy hearing more of your recollections if you have time,
Rosalind

Re: Aden 1964-66

My parents lived in Little Aden from 1965 to 1968. My father was the Vicar of Little Aden at St Peter's church and my mother was a school teacher in the primary school Little Aden. I flew out for holidays and remember the Club at Little Aden and the amazing snorkelling. Great adventure just wished I had stayed in touch with friends of that time

You should check out a Facebook group called Aden British School Pupils to 1967 easy to join the group. Lots of photos and memories especially for pupils who lived in Steamer Point Crater or Khormaksa

Thanks, Patricia, that's a good suggestion! I'll try it.

Re: Aden 1964-66

Hi Chris,
We all intend to keep in touch with friends but it doesn't always happen! We didn't go to Little Aden all that often, but always enjoyed it when we did. I remember one or two boat trips there, usually around Christmas time. We had some great memories despite the troubles.
Best, Rosalind

Re: Aden 1964-66

I use C++ for work area applications and Javascript/HTML5-blend for web games, right? I don't know how to utilize unadulterated HTML5 and no system because, with practically no structure, I can't plan my code structure totally without anyone else.
