My father Arnold McCulloch (b1906- d1990) was a photographer with the squadron on North Africa, Italy and Austria. He was also a painter in water colours. He painted scenes at various locations along the way. One of these is a painting 'Sptitfires on Dispersal, Lago, Italy', painted in April 1944.
After some searching and finding your history of the squadron, I can see that 'Lago' was located near Castel Volturno, Caserta. I am interested in knowing the precise location of the airfield so that I can pin down where my father painted the Sptifires. There happens to be a small flying club located on the north side of the river Volturno, which is operational today and claims a history going back 80 years, so I just wonder if it's the same place that might have remained an airfield after the war. Who knows?
