I read about this days ago - it is sad. Haven't heard a word since then about their condition....
No doubt an umbrella with metal spokes and handle would do the trick.....

Friday, September 25, 2009
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities say a woman and a toddler have been struck by lightning in the parking lot of a North Carolina department store.
The Fayetteville Fire Department said the woman and the 1 1/2 year-old child were hit by the bolt Friday afternoon after shopping at T.J. Maxx and were taken to Cape Fear Valley Health System in critical condition.
Battalion Commander Ronald Lewis says a bystander called 911 and began CPR on the woman.
The names of the woman and child were not released, and hospital officials did not immediately return a phone call.
Lewis says the woman was carrying the child and an umbrella when she was struck.
The National Weather Service says a thunderstorm that dropped around two inches of rain was moving through the area at the time.[/quote]
'Tis an example of why you should head for a shelter and not just get under a tree if a T-Storm is around when you're playing golf. Better yet, you should've checked the weather before you teed off. One of those bolts could sure put a flash in you wedge shots.
