Other consideration is placement of UV light. Most manufactures recommend placing uv after filer to protect against rocks in water stream so that it does break quartz sleave and 2) it is more effective in clear water downstream of filter.

I listen to manufacturer and have since changed my uv 57 watt after pump but before filter. Reason: My pond and skimmer where getting coated with dead algae precipitating out in the pond and the koi would stir the heck out of it and put it back in suspension...a mess...really...now the dead algae go right into the filter and I don't notice any performance hit from placement...and yes I do have to backwash filter more often but thats ok..
