I just learned that you passed away last week. I cannot tell you how saddened and stunned I am by this news. You were one of the best people I have ever known. I'm glad for the times we had together. You were a great friend and teacher (all of your bad jokes aside). My students benefited from learning from you, as did I.

My best dive with you was my deep dive for my Advanced certification. We went down just outside the main channel and dropped to 110 feet. We sat there for a minute or two. I didn't see much except for a cool red anemone, then you motioned it was time to come up. On the boat, you were really excited, and said something like, "I have NEVER seen that in my entire diving career!! Did you see it?! Did you see it?!" Apparently, there was a school of hammerhead sharks just at the fringe of the blue, but I completely missed it. That was my best dive because you were so excited about diving, about discovering the new, and about sharing that joy with other divers. Thank you. You will be greatly missed. And diving won't ever be the same.

Dear Dave,

Even though we were not planning to dive at all, we ended up on your place. Before we knew we had an appointment for an introduction dive and a few days later we saw two mantas!!! We still cannot imagine that we did this, let alone that we saw mantas and had a great reef dive!

Thanks for your great introduction, patience and your good sense of humor. We felt very comfortable even though we only had been snorkling before. You made our stay on the beautiful island of Yap even more special.

Greetings from Brunei!

A message to say just how much we enjoyed diving with you and your staff. We are most definitely the kind of divers who are allergic to the "Dr. No" scenes of scores of divers under the water that happens in so many places across the world: thankfully not in Yap!

Our time with you was too short, but what we have taken away in memories is incalculable. The sheer variety of life and colours under the waves of Yap is fantastic and we are confident enough that it will remain so with the local people so concerned with their natural heritage.

We are equally confident that we will be returning to dive with you again, (Continental Airlines and Fortress Guam permitting), in the near future.

Meantime, if there is ever a need for any non-CIA affiliated/accredited teachers in Yap, then let us know!
