Armenian plane into Black Sea, 113 dead

YEREVAN, Armenia, May 3 (UPI) --

An Armenian A-320 aircraft plunged into the Black Sea off Russia's southern coast early Wednesday, killing all 113 people aboard.

The Armavia Airlines flight was flying from the Armenian capital of Yerevan to Adler, which services the resort city of Sochi, Russia's Novosti news agency said.

Russia's Emergency Situations ministry said bad weather was the most probable cause of the tragedy, while Interior Ministry spokesman Igor Zhukov said terrorism was not suspected.

"We are considering several versions: a mistake made by the pilot, a technical malfunction or a mistake by air traffic controllers," Zhukov said.

Recovery efforts were being hampered by heavy rain, choppy seas and gusting winds.

Crews have recovered 25 bodies from the crash site, where fragments of the plane were detected at a depth of 1,000 feet, four miles from the coastline, Itar-Tass reported.

Of the dead, eight were crew members and six were children, the report said.
