Never flew out or back with Alitalia usually BOAC or MEA. The routes seemed to change yearly. Flew London Rome Cairo one year. Then Rome Beirut Jeddah. Also London Rome Khartoum. Wish I had taken more notice of the routes and taken some photo’s.
Seemed to remember going via Rome a few times. I wish I knew what happened to the lovely Italian family my dad worked with, Sebastian La Rosa. He had two daughters, one worked in one of the shops in Little Aden (might have been called Albina). Does anyone remember them or know where they went. If my memory serves me correctly, there were houses for employees from India (or perhaps other nationals) and they lived there.
Usually London Beirut Jeddah Aden on MEA (changing at Beirut). I once remember London Frankfurt Rome Cairo Asmara Aden . This was on United Arab Airlines (changing at Cairo). It took forever !
The good old 'Lollipop Specials'! I'm not quite sure, but I think the Comet. I definitely remember at least one flight on a VC10.
(I just typed 'fight on a VC10' - luckily I noticed the typo!!)
Yes, the VC10 was brilliant. As an adult I ended up on Concorde, this from a child who was rubbish at school. My teachers who told me so...flew economy.....they lacked the imagination of this child to fly high.
Hi Cathy,
Yes, the VC10 was a wonderful aircraft. Sadly I never had the opportunity to fly on a Concorde, but imagine it must have been a fantastic experience!
My father Fred Collinson took this cine film which my cousin has kindly put on to YouTube. There are notes with the video.
I have memories of Rome airport and Khartoum.
