Great to read about riders, officials and supporters of the Hawks. I was on the track staff for about 15 years, on the starting gate, a pusher (of bikes, nothing else!) and eventually Clerk of the Course.
I have been shouted at by Len Silver when things didn't go right, run over by Olle Nygren when I pushed off a bike in front of him, picked many a bike out of the safety fence.

The early memories of being in the cramped pits under the original grandstand while 16 JAPs were being warmed up with not a single silencer between them, still makes my ears ring. Ear defenders? Hadn't been invented!

I shall be watching the website for the date of the 2012 reunion. I've just gotta be there!

Unforutunalty the recording was cut down from the original version, so for the Speedway pursit, there does seem to be mistakes on it.

so sorry to hear of the passing of Tony (professor) Barnard. Long since lost contact but he was my boss at work for several years during the late 70's & 80's. Due to our mutual "love" of the Hawks, I spent many happy (?) hours with him at the Wick testing his revolutionary starting gate, unfortunately all to no avail. rest in peace Tony, you will always be remembered as a good boss & a great Hawks fan. your epitaph....Always made it a date Fridays at 8.

Hi everyone, Great shame the Hawks are no more. I spent may happy hours watching from the stands in the mid sixtes. I would love to know if anyone has a photo of a carnival float the Hawks entered around that time. I'm not sure which year? could have been 64-65? I was on that float with a friend called Stephen Dolly. We were wearing Hackney Hawks jackets which we made ourselves to advertise the team. One of the Hawks riders one that float was Malcom Simmons. i was there on the night that vic harding was killed. his accident happened in front of me. took the sparkle out of speedway for me for a while. he was my favourite rider of that time. that crash like many never has left me. but never forgot him as a rider either. god bless him xxx
